Sudden Diagnosis of Diabetes 2 Combined with a
Mental Ilness-Bipolar Affective Disorder
An event such as being diagnosed with Diabetes 2, causes shock and trauma to a person. Who is already affected by a psychiatric disability. When first told that you have a Mental Illness, there are the same phases you are now challenged by now being explained to you about Diabetes 2. The following Phases that you feel and think of are as follows:
• Shock – “I can't believe it!”
• Denial - “This can't be happening to me!”
• Grief – I can no longer take care of myself in my world!”
• Despair and Depression - “This is awful! There is no hope!”
• Anger - “How could this happen!”
• And Acceptance - “I need to get on with my life!”
Acceptance is the final result and to humble oneself realising it is the utmost requirement to not feel angry with the internal words of “Why me, why me.”
